Well you would have never thought of a film with Amitabh Bachchan in it and not watching him instead. But R. Balki’s transforms AB into Auro with its adolescent voice and looks.

Paa is the story of an intelligent boy Auro,13, who suffers from progenia which leaves mentally normal but physically he looks very older. Auro lives with his mother Vidya(Vidya Balan) and has no idea about the identity of his father till he meets Amol(Abhishek Bachchan)

What works for Paa :-

  1. Introduction of Auro.
  2. Post-Interval portions camouflages the defects in first half, the father-son bonding is excellent.
  3. The last 25 minutes raise the bar of the movie.
  4. High on emotional on quotient.
  5. The transformation of the veteran actor into a kid.
  6. Funny moments- the chat b/w Auro and his best friend.

 

What does not work :- 

  1. The plot shifts from Auro to his father and the politicians plotting against him.
  2. First hour grips you in patches, be patient to watch the whole movie.
  3. Except the family audience, its a rona dhona movie.

 

Overall a great performance of young child by Amitabh Bachchan, credit to the make up artists for such brilliant transformation. Good performances by Abhishek and Vidya, but Big B is superb.
